Safety Standards

Walks during daytime are to a ratio of one guide to twelve walkers, at night one guide to six walkers. This is to ensure your safety, maximise your enjoyment and reduce our environmental impact.
Large groups do not allow people to enjoy this unique wilderness.

All guides hold valid first aid certificates, satisfactory criminal record bureau Police checks and adhere to our child protection policies. All our members of staff have considerable knowledge and experience of the area. Most are local residents who have been low water fishing with their parents and families for many years.

Our guides carry first aid packs, mobile phone, VHF marine radio, flares, map, compass, emergency shelter and navigation equipment.

We can supply a detailed risk assessment of the areas if requested.

As a responsible company Jersey Kayak Adventures Ltd has an outdoor activities liability insurance. We comply with local laws, employment and tax legislation.

Why are departure points not listed?

Departure points are only given out, when you book. This enables us to plan our walks to ensure the correct number of guides are leading the walks. This also reduces the problem of unexpected people turning up which can compromise our safety standards. Organising unexpected clients at the departure point takes up time in an environment, where the sea waits for no one.

This approach reduces the problem of non-booked people arriving and following our parties in the belief that they will stay safe because they are following us. We consider this practice is irresponsible as it places an unacceptable responsibility on our guides should those following our party have an accident.

If you are not confident that you understand the tides and gullies in this area, you should only go with a guide or someone with a good local knowledge. We run evening classes on tides, currents and weather to give people more knowledge in order to explore areas in greater safety.
