Safety

Walks are to a ratio of one guide to twelve walkers. This is to ensure your safety, maximise your enjoyment and reduce environmental impact.

Large groups do not allow people to enjoy this unique wilderness.

All guides hold valid first aid certificates, satisfactory criminal record bureau Police checks and adhere to our child protection policies. All have considerable knowledge and experience of the area. Most are local residents who have been low water fishing with their parents and families for many years.Staff carry first aid packs, mobile phone, VHF marine radios, flares, map, compass, emergency shelter and GPS navigation systems.

We can supply a detailed risk assessment if requested.

As a responsible company Jersey Kayak Adventures Ltd has an outdoor activities liability insurance. We comply with local laws, employment and tax legislation.

Departure points and times are deliberately kept vague until you book. This enables us to plan our walks to ensure the correct number of guides are leading the walks and reduces the problem of unexpected people turning up which can compromise our safety standards. Organising unexpected clients at the departure point takes up time in an environment where the sea waits for no one.

This approach reduces the problem of non booked people arriving and following our parties in the belief that they will stay safe because they are following us. This practice is irresponsible and places an unacceptable responsibility on our guides should those following our party have an accident.

If you are not confident that you understand the tides in this area then you should go with a guide or someone with a good local knowledge of the area. We run evening classes on tides, currents and weather which are aimed at giving people enough knowledge to explore areas like this in greater safety.
